This application allows users to rename all image and video files captured by their camera. It's important to carefully read through all descriptions before use.

Android 11: Please note that this application is not compatible with Android 11.

The process of renaming and moving files is irreversible, so caution is advised when using this software. The application does not retain old names to prevent conflicts with the default camera application's file counter, which resets when files are renamed or removed. To work around this issue, users can select the option to "Append original name."

If you encounter any issues, consider reinstalling the application.

It's worth noting that this application was developed for older phones, and testing on real devices beyond KitKat and Lollipop was not feasible due to associated costs.

• KitKat advice: The application can only rename files stored in internal memory by default and does not have access to SD card files. Refer to the paragraph "What changed after KitKat?" at http://goo.gl/0xr7qI for more information.
• Lollipop advice: For external memory renaming, enable the "Rename within a folder" option and select the folders used by your camera app to save files. When facing issues on Lollipop, only select the DCIM folder without subfolders, e.g., SD Card/DCIM.
• Android 7 (Nougat) advice: Set the rename service trigger to "Media content observer" for automatic file renaming if the service is not prompted during camera events.

Description:

This application was created to automatically rename pictures and video clips from a Sony Xperia V based on the file's date and time, transforming file names like DSC_0001.JPG or MOV_0001.mp4 into 20150414_213616.JPG or 20150414_090523.mp4.

• Rename file using the date and time:
  • When the file was added to the media provider
  • When the file was last modified
  • Only pictures support using EXIF info; video clips do not have this capability

The user can specify folders for limiting the renaming process, including subfolders, using the "Rename within a folder" option.

The file renaming format employs Java date and time formats: yyyy for years, MM for months, dd for days, HH for hours, mm for minutes, ss for seconds, and SSS for milliseconds. For more format information, visit http://docs.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/text/SimpleDateFormat.html.

Note that due to EXIF specifications and Android file name datetime settings, milliseconds are not internally utilized.

Define individual file name patterns for pictures or clips, using wildcards like * or ?. The pattern matching is case-insensitive, accepting lower or upper case or a combination of both.

Avoid overly generic patterns such as *.JPG to prevent infinite renaming loops.

If enabled, the rename service triggers automatically when an image or video file is saved onto the device's media storage via events sent by the camera or Media content changes observation.
